FEATURED ARTICLE:

Results of clinical trials show that SAW PALMETTO is effective in the treatment of BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperphasia), commonly called enlarged prostate. It seems to have some advantages over the treatments commonly used in the United States. It has the ability to decrease prostate size and provide rapid symptomatic relief. SAW PALMETTO does this with very few side effects. It does not cause hormonal side effects (such as impotence or gynecomastia) and in studies does not affect serum PSA values. Saw palmetto does not cause the hypotension, dizziness or nasal congestion which are sometimes seen with other common treatments.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
The Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens), also known as the American dwarf palm, is native to the West Indies and the southeastern coast of the United States. The berries of this small fan palm were a food source for Native American Indians. Saw Palmetto berries have been used for centuries to improve urinary tract health. There are even references in Indian folklore about the improved sexual performance of the older braves when Saw Palmetto berries were in season.
During the early part of the 1900′s, Saw Palmetto was often used in mainstream medical circles as a mild diuretic and a treatment for women with chronic cystitis. It was also thought to be beneficial for men with an enlarged prostate. It was included in the National Formulary until the 1950′s. Currently, the major use for Saw Palmetto extract is in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) commonly called “enlarged prostate”. It is also used to treat non-bacterial prostatitis.
